CLADEM Guatemala is a national articulation made up by Colectiva para la Defensa de las Mujeres en  Guatemala  - CODEFEM (Patricia Pinto-economista y María  Isabel Grijalva-trabajadora social),  Centro de Reportes informativos sobre Guatemala - CERIGUA (Ileana Alamilla, abogada y notaria) and six members on individual status: María Eugenia Mijangos (lawyer), Elizabeth Quiroa (economist and gender expert), Floridalma Contreras (human rights activist), Dinora Gil (lawyer), Claudia Agreda (Politologist) and Elisa Portillo (lawyer).

The main activities of CLADEM Guatemala at the national level during the first semester of 2005 have been:

  • CLADEM Guatemala organized the presentation of the publication “Women’s Human Rights: Strengthening its international promotion and protection. From formation to action”, held on April 28th, in coordination with IIDH and CEJIL.

  • CLADEM Guatemala attended the consultations of a Chilean journalist in relation to the feminicides in said country.

Advocacy actions:

  • CLADEM Guatemala’s communiqué on occasion of March 8th, taking up again the FTA issue, which unfortunately is only a few days away from its signature. They are requesting a hearing with the President of Congress to explain their position.

During the period there was participation in the following international events:

  • A member of CLADEM Guatemala, together with six other CLADEM members (Regional Coordinator, Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Puerto Rico and Uruguay) participated in the CSW Beijing +10, in New York, from February 26th thru March 6th.
